Comte de Thun

The wide range of wines from “Comte de Thun” are ambassadors of the history of the southwestern French wine landscape. In terms of style, they differ significantly from other wines in the area – at the same time they are very typical of the region. The wines of “Comte de Thun” are an individual expression of their creators’ vision of reviving the vinological success era of “Vin de Coq”.

First mentioned in a document in the 15th century and probably built much earlier, Count Ferdinand von Thun had the weathered building lovingly renovated after acquiring it in 1998 and restored its splendour.

Once known as “Vins de Coq”, the region’s wines were coveted all over the world for their top quality and ageability. Comte de Thun aims to revive the regions unique history and put the region of Gaillac back on the map.

Consultant winemaker, Dr Riccardo Cotarella is one of Italy’s most renowned oenologists and is known throughout the world as “Il Mago”. Time and again, the internationally sought-after wine magician manages to elicit absolute top wines from previously unrecognised regions. He has been helping to shape the “Comte de Thun” wine adventure from the very beginning.
